Traditional Village,
presented by Fort McKay First Nation
Featuring tipis and trappers tents showcasing the Five First Nations served by ATC and participating Métis communities in Wood Buffalo.
Each community will demonstrate their traditional food preservation and preparation methods and impart their traditional knowledge of how to survive on this northern land. The Traditional Village offers the Indigenous people in the Wood Buffalo region an opportunity to reconnect while teaching festival goers about their traditions and cultural way of life.
The Village is open to the public all three days of the Festival from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. In addition to the Indigenous communities showcasing their traditions, the Village will feature the Ceremonial Tipi and Sacred Fire, which is kept burning throughout the festival by honoured Fire Keepers. Attendees can watch, learn, and participate in the traditional cooking and activities in the Village. Traditional food will be available during the lunch hour to sample.
