For the past 20 years, Cassandra Marcel, an Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation woman from Fort Chipewyan, has been creating artwork that celebrates her Dene heritage. Her journey into this art form began when she discovered her great-grandmother's beads and asked her mother to teach her how to bead. This learning process became a family affair, filled with storytelling and shared experiences. Through beading, Cassandra not only expresses her artistic vision but also maintains a connection to her great-grandmother and those around her.
